A Weekend of Surprises

The Proposal (from Michelle's Perspective)

Jason had the proposal weekend all planned out. Because I'd been so busy, he decided to pick the weekend. The way that he let me know which weekend it was going to be was through the first of many surprises.

About 2 weeks before he proposed, I came home and found two single roses and a cupcake box on my desk. Each of the roses had a card on them saying I had an appointment - one for Saturday, May 14 and one for Sunday, May 15. It said the appointments went from 12:30 pm to late. They did not say for where or what we'd be doing.

On the 14th, Jason told me that I should dress comfortably and that I would have time to dress up later. We left the apartment and headed out. Jason had been joking that he was going to take me to Jake's Bar and Grill on that weekend. He pulled the car in front of Jake's Bar and Grill, and I knew that we weren't at the right place. I told Jason so, and he said no, but that where we were going could be in Eagan. I responded that he didn't know of places to go in Eagan, and then I promptly got to stick my foot in my mouth as he pulled up in front of a spa where I got an hour massage.

After the massage, we had lunch, headed home, and got ready for dinner. We ended up going to the Melting Pot, a fondue restaurant downtown, and had a four course meal. Throughout dinner, I was convinced Jason was going to propose on Sunday, and even told him so. I got to stick my foot in my mouth again because after we got back from dinner, Jason had another surprise for me. When we walked into the apartment, I noticed that the extra bedroom where we keep the cats' litter boxes was closed. I assumed the wind must have shut the door and that the cats were stuck inside. What I didn't notice, until after I had freed the cats, was that there were 100 roses spread out through the apartment. After I did notice some of the roses, I kept turning around to find even more. While I was distracted finding more and more flowers, Jason pulled out the ring and got down on one knee. After a giant nod, hugging, and happy tears, we went on a walk.

For Sunday's appointment, Jason told me not to eat lunch. We headed out toward the direction of what I realized was Bucca's - an Italian restaurant. Once we parked, Jason told me to wait outside the restaurant. He came out to get me, we went inside, and then we sat down. The waitresses kept saying that we were celebrating something and asked if we would like anything before the other guests arrived. I had no idea, but Jason had arranged for some of my friends to come and have a surprise lunch to congratulate us on our engagement. We had lunch and had a great time talking about what had happened. As an endnote to our getting engaged, the next time Jason and I went out to eat, we went to Jake's Bar and Grill.

After, getting engaged, I feel truly spoiled and incredibly lucky to have such a wonderful fiance. He made our proposal weekend wonderful and full of surprises. I want to say thank you to Jason for making the weekend both perfect and unforgettable. Also, Jason and I want to thank everyone who has wished us well on our engagement and our upcoming wedding. We truly appreciate all of the support, and we are excited to have our circle of family and friends grow.
